Hi everyone!
We’re Mindy and Joe and we live in a van. Together we travel the country in our self converted 2014 Ram Promaster 3500 Cargo Van.
Canyonlands
National Park
Moab, UT
The first question you may be asking is Why?
The answer is quite simple, Adventure!
We are both travelers at heart. Mindy did a life changing backpacking trip in college that has made her want to travel ever since. While Joe spent 8 years in the US Navy traveling all over the world.
We home base out of Jacksonville, Florida, and while we love the sunshine state, we really wanted to see the whole country.
Where did this idea come from?
We had talked for years about downsizing and living tiny, only having the essentials in life. By living with less, it would allow us to experience more of what life has to offer.
We never thought we’d go this tiny though. Our van is 72 square feet!
Day 1 of the Build
The thought of building a van didn’t cross our minds until a couple of years ago. We saw the freedom that people were experiencing around the world, living, traveling, and working on the road.
Joe was not initially onboard, but over the course of a year, he came around. After we decided that vanlife was what we were going to pursue, we started looking.
Now finding a van is pretty straight forward, but finding the right van is not.
We searched for about a year until we picked out our van. It checked all of the boxes that we were looking for.
Then over the course of 6 months, building during any free time we had. We completed the van build and we did it under budget!
Joe has always worked with his hands and had to purchase very few tools to get the job done, which is one of the reasons we came in under budget.
Mindy on the other hand, is the master planner. She planned out everything down to the penny on what we were going to spend and the timeframe that we would spend it in.
With our skills combined, we got the job done and got on the road.
